SEO and AI search visibility: what a small website can improve
Make your pages accessible, specific and useful for search engines and people. Understand what website checks can and cannot establish.

Start with pages that can be accessed
Search engines need access to eligible content. A private or sign-in-only site cannot serve as a normal public landing page. Check that important public pages return useful content, that crawling is permitted and that they are linked from other pages on your site. A sitemap can help discovery; it does not force a search engine to index a URL.
Answer specific customer questions
Describe your services, intended customers, coverage area, limitations and next steps in readable text. Use descriptive headings and straightforward answers. Keep claims verifiable and update information when the underlying service changes. Helpful pages should add substance instead of repeating the same sales copy across many near-identical URLs.
Keep structured data consistent with the page
Structured data provides explicit information about content. Describe the actual business or software and visible offers accurately. Do not invent reviews, customer counts, ratings or availability. Structured data does not create eligibility for every search feature, and search appearance is not guaranteed.
There is no guaranteed AI citation setting
Google says its established SEO practices remain relevant to AI Overviews and AI Mode, without special additional technical requirements. Other answer engines have their own systems. Clear pages and reliable information are useful foundations; adding a file or a markup block cannot guarantee that an AI answer will cite your business.
Check Google’s participation control separately
Google now documents a Search generative AI control in Search Console for AI Overviews, AI Mode and related generative features. Its documented choices are include, exclude or inherit. This is a participation setting, not a ranking boost or a citation guarantee. Google says the current control rolled out worldwide on 31 August 2026 and that a change generally takes one to two days to propagate. Aither Watch cannot read or change your Search Console settings, so inspect the verified property directly and record the date and choice you made.
Use a checker for the questions it can answer
Aither Watch checks a small HTML and link sample, including titles, descriptions and headings. It does not measure rankings, inspect your Search Console account or track citations in AI answers. Use its findings to identify page issues, then assess actual search visibility with the search engine’s own reporting tools.
